Desktop Publishing: Assignment #4 - Plan an Event


You are responsible for planning an upcoming event. Make it your own style and get creative! Include:

  • Part I: Plan (Word Document) (Complete on Friday/Monday and give to your teacher)

  • Part II: Invitation, Poster/Advertisement, Program, Tickets (Complete at the end of class next Thursday)
Part I:Plan Before you begin working on the components of the event submit a plan for revision to your teacher. The plan should be created in Microsoft Word explaining:

  1. Who is putting on the event? (Company, Product, Person)

  2. What is the event and what is the theme? (Birthday, concert, dance, party, is there a slogan that goes with your event?)

  3. Where will the event take place? (Outdoors, Indoors, At a hall)

  4. When will the even take place? (Time, day, year)

  5. Why is this event happening?

The more detail you use in your plan, the better your event will be!


Part II: Event Planning


You must follow what you outlined in your plan and carry the same theme throughout the entire project. That means that if you design a logo; use the same logo on all the elements for the project. Make sure that there is consistency between the elements. You may use a template or design your event by using a blank publication in Publisher. You must use appropriate content and language.

Desktop Publishing: Assignment #3 - Menu

If you had the money to start your own restaurant today, what type of restaurant would you start?




  • What type of food would you serve?


  • What type of theme would your restaurant have?


  • Where would it it be located?


  • What would the ambiance of your restaurant feel like?


  • What would you name it and what would your colour scheme be?


After considering the questions above, design a logo or theme for your restaurant. Next, design and create a menu using a template available from Publisher. You will come up with all of the food and drink items for your menu. You will provide a description and price for each item on the menu. Your menu must include categories found on a typical menu: appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, desserts, beverages (non-alcoholic!)



Requirements:





  • Restaurant name


  • Theme (Mexican, Gourmet, Vegetarian, Coffee Shop, Steakhouse - be creative!)


  • Five menu categories which include a minimum of five items in each category


  • Each item must have a detailed description and a price


  • Final Presentation - clean, attractive, ready to use


Grading Criteria: Total Points /50

Desktop Publishing: Assignment #2 - Logo and Business Cards

Using a template in Publisher, create a personal business card for your own business or for a career that you are interested in pursuing. Be sure to remember the proper format for mailing and physical addresses. (Some adjustments may be acceptable for modern design) Requirements:

  • Logo & contact information

Desktop Publishing: Assignment #1 - Newsletter

Create a newsletter using a publishing wizard. Choose a layout you would like to use. Edit the layout to add your own unique touches. Fill in your newsletter with information related to an activity that you are involved in at KCI. (If you would like to make a newsletter about another topic, ask your teacher prior to starting.) Requirements:

  • Three articles (that you wrote) that include a headline and a byline.

  • Three pictures (clipart or original images) with captions.

  • A calendar of events

  • Index (on the front page)

  • Due date: Thursday, April 7 at the end of class
